Dream's Seller - Part I

When you give it much of a thought, while you're sitting on the roof of your house, looking at the stars and waiting for dawn; you get to the conclusion that life itself is a circle: we are born, we grow up, we reach the climax of our life and then, we die.
However the world is not only ruled by one circle, in fact, to keep the balance, it has many circles tangled in each other, just like a spider's web.
The Earth spins around its own, following the rotation axis, 11º deviated from the normal, creating the succession of nights and days. Also, like a true believer, the Earth orbits around the sun, tirelessly without complaining, giving birth to the seasons.
In our surroundings the carbon dioxide cycle is always happening , usually trapped inside living creatures, alongside with the matter cycle, triggered by food chains.
In terms of the universe, as everybody knows, scientists suppose it all started with a big explosion named as Big Bang. But what existed before the big explosion? Perhaps the same universe we have nowadays? Perhaps there were planets with double gravity? Maybe there was someone like me... Just trying to find a place in this world!

Anyway, our story begins with a girl called Jo.
On one of those nights, where a slight fog erases pieces of our reality (either physically, or inside our dream borders) while it's drizzling, that's when fate decides to strike (stabilizing the peace once again and eliminating the places where chaos was the leader).

Hanging by a thread, a dream catcher is waving alongside the soft cold wind blowing through the window into Jo's bedroom.
The dream catcher has four distinct sections, incorporating the four phases of life, the four phases of the moon (full moon, waning moon, new moon, crescent moon), the four cardinal points (East, South, West, North) and the respective four elements (Wind, Fire, Water, Earth).

When we face East, there is a bookshelf that covers all the height of the wall. The shelves of the bookcase are full of books, school materials, stuffed animals, family and childhood pictures.
At its very bottom, we can pull out an extended piece of wood to form an improvised desk, where Jo usually does her doodles, sitting on her violet puff. Next to it there is an empty bird's cage, where it once protected a weak and old canary bird. The containers for food and water are still full, as if ready to feed a hungry creature. Also, tied to the cage was the canary's dusty bell. Oz loved to ring it when Jo used to bring friends over. Let's say it was a way to attract human being's attention. Oz even surprised Jo with some unexpected tricks, such as spinning around on one leg, chirping a sad lullaby (when the girls started to talk about the history of their heartbreaks) and simulating a kiss.

Turning to the right, following the clockwise direction, we are at the South side of the room.
Here, there's a common door half covered with a huge poster of Brant Daugherty who Jo considered a perfect actor to perform the role of the fallen angel that turns into a demon in one of the Small feather's books. Hanging on the doorknob a miniature dream catcher holds a small disintegrated photo that brings back memories when Jo was six years old.
In the picture, she was sitting upon a porch of her first home, hugging both of her best friends. One of them was a blue eyed blonde girl named Erin who looked like a pure angel on the outside, but she had a very cunning and mysterious soul. I even dare to say that she was the 'brain' of their pack. The other one was a guy wearing glasses with thick black frames. Behind the glasses, there was two shimmering golden green eyes profiling his face. He was more like the 'Peacemaker', always with a new joke around. At birthday parties he usually was the one playing songs in his guitar and making everyone sing and dance on the stage.
Having some good time!
Unfortunately, they are both dead now.
A twisted man got into their academy and started shooting randomly over school's community. Overall there was twenty-seven dead people. Three employees, ten teachers and fourteen students. Two of them were Erin and Alex.
Jo had skipped school that day.
Due to that fact, she was given the opportunity to see another sunrise, but she blamed herself for not being by her best friends side. She still feels like she had betrayed them somehow...
And that was the day, when everything began to fall apart in Jo's life.

Next to the door is the bed. It's still undone, with its sheets in a complete chaos, clothes scattered all over and with one of the two pillows on the floor, where we can distinguish traces of fresh blood.
Inside the bed there is David, snoring and taking some rest.
After a week of turbulent nights and a high dosage of anti-depressant pills, David finally can pass out toward the dreamland for a few peaceful hours.
Keep turning right, we are now facing the West. The wall's paint is filled with tons of papers picturing various stages of Jo's spirit.
The doodles are organized according to a compass card. The especial drawings are posted by their relevance, following the rules of time, place and feelings; occupying extreme positions in the compass card.
Leaning against the wall there is a eleven year-old dusty guitar, with a pick tucked into its strings and, also, with a necklace of leather with a shark tooth hanging wrapped around the guitar's arm.
Hanging by a gauzy string, a chair shaped as a half-moon appears to be floating in the air, with a Piglet resting on it.

Finally the North.
Upon a wooden table, two screens allow Jo to get into a virtual life, while a breeze caresses her hair tresses, as well as the dream catchers hanging feathers.
Her forearm is bloody mess, blood sneaks out her veins in bearable amounts and she's still holding the mutilation weapon.
In one screen she's listening to heavy metal songs so as to keep her conscious and in the other one, she's playing a social game.

A bathtub full of water and rose's petals floating on the surface, is emanating steam to the small bathroom, turning it into an invisible, eerie dimension.
Jo's light weight makes her fragile legs tremble and to stop them, she is distributing her weight by her hands.
Three single blood drops roll down the sink, coming from her cut arm.
When Jo is finally able to open her eyes and focus them in the mirror, she gets disgusted about what she's seeing. Herself...
A slight, thin, pink line in her right cheek is covered with dried blood. A passionate bite mark in her neck, finally stopped bleeding, but the bruise translates raw love instead of a caring one.
A sudden wave of anger flows through her essence and, as a reaction, she raises her fist and punches the mirror, shattering it and leaving her hand full of tiny pieces of it, joined with her own blood.
Sitting down upon the toilet lid, holding the scissor's sharp side against her belly and breathing heavily, due to the increased of adrenalin in her veins. Jo slides the scissor inside her, stridently screaming, at the same time that a thunder mutes the whole neighborhood, with its powerful explosion of sound.

*

Jo jumps into her bed, with her face wet because of the tears, hands, forearm and belly covered in blood, and shouts at David alongside the storm "GET OUT!".
David wakes up with his icy blue eyes wide open "What the he--"
"EVERYBODY...HATES...ME!"she pauses in every word, making its pronounciation sounds stressed.
He holds up one of his hands, that Jo is grabbing tightly and, as he notices the amount of blood she's losing, he, astonished, asks "What's going on, Jo?"
"LIKE YOU CARE," she keeps screaming "YOU'RE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE..." with this, she starts hitting him in the tummy.

While they're shouting and hitting each other, somewhere in their neighborhood a trigger is pulled, an agonizing scream is released and a crying pray is hummed towards the sky.
The price will be a dream's catcher...
